After a decade as corporate counsel for Royal Plus, attorney J. Christopher Llinas now operates his own legal firm in Ocean Pines, Maryland. Christopher Llinas balances his professional obligations with personal interests in charity and environmentalism. He volunteered his time as a logistical coordinator for Prayer Vigil of the Earth for several years.
Prayer Vigil for the Earth is an annual celebration of the planet and the diverse people who inhabit it. Borrowing traditions from many faiths, the annual two-day event focuses on bringing people together for healing, unity, and positive change. The completely volunteer-run vigil is held near the Washington Monument each fall, in a tradition that dates back to 1997.
The vigil always begins on a Friday. Participants kick off the event by establishing a “peace village,” which consists of tepees, chapels, altars, and monuments from varied faiths arranged around a bonfire. The event is open to everyone, and very loosely structured. Children can visit the kids’ tepee to draw pictures of Earth, while adults and families mingle in the village, walk the labyrinth, and engage in silent prayer for the planet.
